Ex d enclosures for use in potentially explosive atmospheres

At this year’s ACHEMA, ROSE Systemtechnik is presenting Ex d enclosures with a wide range of options for use in the processing industry. The manufacturer’s flameproof enclosures ensure the necessary explosion protection for use with non-certified components or small appliances which represent a potential ignition source in areas with potentially explosive atmospheres.

Potentially explosive atmospheres are found in numerous sectors of the oil, gas, chemical or pharmaceutical industries, in which it is often necessary to process flammable materials in the form of gases, liquids or dust. Within the EU, the requirements for the safe use of electrical equipment in explosion-endangered areas are strictly regulated by the ATEX directive. Adherence to far-reaching national and international directives, provisions and standards is necessary, in order to assure maximum safety during operation. Nurullah Palamut, who is in charge of the manufacture of explosion-proof products at ROSE Systemtechnik, reports: “By making use of the pressure-tight encapsulation inside an ignition-proof Ex d enclosure, components or small appliances which represent a potential ignition source can be made suitable for use in the processing industry.”

Ex d enclosures for various applications

Whether as simple distribution boxes for energy, sensor signals or complex control systems – ROSE’s Ex d enclosures cover an extremely large and diverse range of requirements in industrial environments. The flameproof enclosures are available in various sizes and types for use in various gas groups and service-temperature ranges. The enclosure experts from Porta Westfalica thus provide industry with a broad range of solutions for the safe and reliable encapsulation of electrical equipment. For example, a manufacturer of fire detection technology products employs an ATEX-certified aluminium enclosure in ROSE’s GUB series in order to encapsulate a thermal camera for use in, among others, chemistry parks, gas power plants, flour mills and stores, and silos or wood-processing companies.

In addition to aluminium enclosures, ROSE’s Ex d range of products includes stainless steel enclosures. The Ex d enclosures of the TBE, EJB, GUB and IJB series conform to Degree of Protection IP 66 in acc. with DIN EN 60529 and are thus dust-tight and protected against the ingress of water. Customised modifications and/or surface finishes – including sight glasses and paint systems – can also be implemented, depending on the particular type of enclosure. ROSE can, at the request of customers, also produce special enclosures, and can perform all machining, and installation of products.
